Dr Abigail King
Abigail King trained and practised as a doctor specialising in Intensive Care and Accident and Emergency Medicine in the UK before becoming a full time writer.
She completed her MA (Hons) in Neuroscience at Cambridge University before completing her MBBS (Hons) at Imperial College, London and passing her postgraduate MCEM from the Royal College of Emergency Medicine.
Her clinical background continues to inform her work: a disciplined approach to evidence, comfort with complexity, and the ability to make difficult subjects accessible without oversimplifying them.

Reaching the Public
King is the author of Anatomy Explained, A Guide for Curious Minds by Rosen Publishing. From ancient mummification to nuclear imaging, it highlights remarkable anatomical facts, supported by clear charts and fact boxes that bring historical and biological concepts to life.
She wrote the chapters on Covid and SARS for the updated Pandemics title by Elwin Street Publishing and has written for titles like Athletic Weekly and Cycling Mobility to make scientific research accessible to the public.

Her work translates research-led storytelling into formats designed for public audiences, combining clarity with context and narrative structure.
Her background in journalism, long-form writing and medicine informs a calm, analytical approach to complex subjects. Her years spent broadcasting live for Lonely Planet give her a flexible and entertaining approach to presenting and dealing with audience questions.

In addition to written work, Abigail produces research-informed digital media, including short-form video and multimedia storytelling. These formats extend complex ideas into accessible visual and audio spaces without losing nuance.
She is the founder of the multi-award-winning Inside the Travel Lab, a multimedia thoughtful approach to travel for the curious traveller, and won a British Travel Media Award for a standalone Digital Campaign.
She was the Head of Digital Content and Strategy at Bradt Publishing, the largest independent travel publisher in the world, leading the team to a Trav Media Award nomination for Best Travel Website.
