Just back from the TBU Conference held in Innsbruck, Austria. Aside from giving presentations on travel writing and traditional media, I had the good fortune to scoop up an award for travel writing and then finally the sun made an appearance for the few hours I had free. I love it when a plan comes together…

While Sapporo steals the headlines when it comes to snow festivals in Japan, the Tohoku region offers plenty of off the beaten track igloo adventure.

I’m just back from an assignment in Tohoku, taking in the snow festivals, doll festivals, sake breweries and UNESCO sights, as well as making the most of all that wonderful food. In short, a mixture of well-known and well-guarded Japanese traditions.

Tripbase have just published their list of 100 Favorite Travel Writers – and you can imagine how happy I was to see that “Abigail King” made the cut. I’ve no idea what factors Tripbase used to draw up their list but I’m not going to argue with the final result!

As I write this, I’m huddled up in frosty London rather than stretching in the sun like the “favorite writer” in the pic but the news warmed up my day anyway.
